Caermyrddin Beagles is a small kennel set amongst the lush, green, rolling hills of the Dorrigo Plateau, on the Mid North Coast of NSW. Our aim is to produce happy, healthy hounds to become loved and cherished members of your family.
I grew up in Dorrigo, on a dairy farm, just over the valley from where I now live and my memories are filled with the animals with which I spent my childhood years. There were cats, dogs, calves and horses, sheep, ducks and chickens, to name just a few. I was destined to spend my life surrounded by animals.
During my University years at Bathurst I was introduced to the world of dog shows in 1991, where I began showing and also training and trialing Dobermanns. In 1995 I returned to my home town of Dorrigo, with one of my Dobermanns, at which time I met and married my husband Scott.
After the loss of my Dobermann bitch, Lexie (Ch Redorah Poker Princess), I became involved in the resurgance of the Dorrigo & District Kennel Club and then purchased another Dobermann in 1999, a red dog called Ricky (Santop Power Extreme). During the early days of showing Ricky, Scott sought out a breed for himself and at a show in Lismore he met a lovely Beagle dog called Hood (Gd Ch Ceugant Hoodwink). It was not long before Merlin (Gd Ch Filnor Illusion) and his sister Peggy (Ch Filnor Eclipse) entered, and took over, our lives. Both dogs came to us from the renowned Filnor kennels of Norma Shipley in Brisbane and we remain forever grateful to Norma for starting us off so well in the breed and also for her knowledge and friendship in the years since. Merlin and Peggy were both Hoodie offspring and we have also developed a close relationship with his family, Bert and Michele Hurcum of Grafton.
The year 2000 proved to be very eventful for Scott and myself, with the arrival of our daughter Georgia and later in that year Peggy produced her first litter of Caermyrddin Beagle puppies. From that first litter we kept a bitch called Maddeline (Ch Caermyrddin Maddeline) and her litter brother Buck (Ch Caermyrddin Buccaneer) was purchased by Brian and Lesley Childs of Cootamundra in NSW and this also cemented another firm friendship.
As our Beagle pack expanded over the following years so did the human pack. Our son Caleb was born in 2002 and before much longer we were searching for the room to spread our wings. In 2004 we moved our family from our home in town to the small acreage where we now reside and in truth where Caermyrddin Beagles have begun to blossom. Our prefix is Welsh and it loosely translates as Caer (castle or keep) and myrddrin (Merlin), quite basicly it is Merlin's Castle and if you know the dog you would know how his personality and presence rule our lives.
2009 has seen a huge change for our family. We have made the move to Tamworth in response to promotions in work for both Scott and myself. We now reside on 6 acres and have commenced renovations to provide new accomodation for the Beagles. This will be a busy year on the homefront and we look forward to reinvigorating the show campaign later in the year with our new and exciting young show team.
Though showing Beagles satisfies the competitive side of my nature, it is the breeding that I really love. Having puppies is a very special experince for me, it takes me back to the enjoyment I experienced as a child when nurturing and caring for newborn animals and watching them grow and develop their own unique little personalities. When it comes time to see a puppy leave our home it is not a sad experience as some might expect, not when you see the absolute look of wonder and joy that people experience when their new Beagle puppy is delivered into their arms. |
